Blank Slate Big News

When we moved into this house and I set up my craft room, I knew it would be short lived, but it would be short lived for a good reason. This room has always been destined to be a nursery, and come August it will have its first occupant! Chris and I are expecting our first child, and we couldn't be more thrilled.

We're not the only ones thrilled, our families are also looking forward to the first grandchild (not including the kittens of course) on both sides. Chris' mom has signed up for painting the nursery, and once we got everything cleared out, she got two coats of Behr Clear Moon on the walls. We still need to paint the floor and closet, but definitely making good progress. We're not going to find out the gender, so planned for a crisp white room with lots of colourful accents and decor. I'm excited to be finally sharing our news, now I can pin nursery inspiration photos to my heart's content!

Appliance Install Fun

Today is Chris' birthday! We are going to celebrate together tonight and next weekend with his family. Happy Birthday to my sweet husband, this year is sure to bring lots of adventures your way!

He was away this weekend for a work function, but before he left on Friday he installed our brand new dishwasher! This was an interesting project as the dishwasher came with now power cord and only the electric wires to be hard wired. Chris made a trip to the home depot where we bought the dishwasher and they recommended he convert it to a power cord, I am truly amazed at how straight forward this process was once we had all the right materials!

If you're in the market for a dishwasher, there are tons of resources available to review and compare models. We landed on this one for all of its features and excellent reviews. Once we decided we waited for a sale, and then because Lowes was having the better sale, we had Home Depot price match and take an extra 10% off. It ended up being a great deal. The only watch out with LG and Home Depot is that they do not carry appliances in stock. We bought this in February and couldn't get it delivered until March. I don't think this is the same for Lowes, but worth checking out!

DIY Friday: Dollar Art

I have been MIA lately. I'm not sure what it is about 2014, but I haven't been taking as many pictures. I am hoping the Spring will wake up the photographer in me!

Last weekend I walked into a calendar store selling all of their calendars for a dollar because they're going out of business. I picked up a couple that I thought I liked for the art, and thought this one was particularly great. It is basically a calendar of positive messages, and I just love the font and colours.

I plan to pick out my favourites and either frame them separately or make a collage!

I hope you all have a great weekend. We're catching up on some Homeland, and I am exploring a small town with one of my girlfriends tomorrow. I promise to post more next week!

Relaxed

Chris took this picture of Missy last weekend and sent it to my phone while I was napping with Boy-Cat in the new sitting room (I love my old green couch). Weekends are for relaxing especially when it is cold outside, and I hope to get a few more kitty snuggles in this weekend while praying for the snow to melt!

Bedside Love

My bedside got a bit of a makeover last week when I moved the wooden crate to the newly renovated sitting room. I moved in this little side table (originally picked out of someone's garbage) from the craft room and hung the bunting from our wedding above our bed.

The little rug beside the bed is actually a small afghan my grandmother made me years ago. I have it folded in half so I have a cozy place to step out of bed in the morning. It's just the right amount of eclectic!

Reading Nook

We recently bought a new sectional for our living room which left us to find a new home for our comfy old green couch. Since our sitting room has never had much in the way of seating options, I gave up my dream of built-ins for a cozy reading area with a gallery wall in the not so distant future. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favourite spaces in the house.

I've repurposed almost everything we already had to make this nook cozy, but I did add an inexpensive clamp light from Ikea to provide for reading light when it gets dark outside. I also plan to add bookshelves to the wall where my diploma is currently hung. I love the natural light in this room and the stone fireplace. It really is a great space.

Life Lately

Chris sent me this picture yesterday while I was at work, and I think it captures life perfectly right now...we're all trying to soak in the sun to make it to Spring. It feels like it has been a long winter, and we still have a number of weeks to go.

Here are some of the things that have been keeping us sane:

1. Netflix- we've watched a number of movies, and just finished season one of Homeland
2. The Library- I love looking up the top reviewed books in blogs and on Amazon and then renting them from the library. Having a due date to return the book motivates me to actually make the time to read. I just finished The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty; it was excellent.
3. Yoga and Gym Trips- I love exercising outside, but sometimes it's just too cold, so a trip to the gym or a yoga class always make me feel better.
