Breakfast in a Bite

Last weekend a few of my friends and I headed to the first annual Craft Beer and Food Trick Festival in our township. It was a great event.

We tasted a lot of yummy food including fries and gravy, poutine, tacos, nachos, pizza, etc, but probably the best thing we tasted all day were deep friend cookies from the Wickedly Sinful food truck. We tried both flavours: red velvet deep fried oreos with cream cheese frosting and deep fried maple cookies with salted bacon topping. 

I thought for sure the Oreos would be by favourite since I don't really like maple cookies, but the maple cookie came out on top. It was amazing, and tasted exactly like breakfast in a bite. It was absolutely delicious. 

Scenes From the Weekend

We had a gorgeous holiday weekend, here's a little bit of what I saw

I went for a walk on Saturday morning and captured some of the colours and fruits of the season.

I finally took some photos of my fall decorations, I made a friend with a neighbourhood barn cat, and our sweet family made a special Thanksgiving wedding cake, so we could celebrate with all of the family members that couldn't make it to New Brunswick for the wedding.

It was also a baking weekend. I roasted my own pumpkin for the pumpkin spice cupcakes, and the carrot cake recipe from a family friend was a big hit with our first Thanksgiving crowd.

Harvest Share Update

The Harvest Share program is only 4 weeks away from being done, and I have to admit the end of the summer/early fall brings the best bounty. Here is a look at the last four weeks...loving my pie pumpkin from last week!

And the winner of the weirdest item is................... A Romanesco cauliflower/broccoli! I received this item in week 15, and immediately took its picture.

I sautéed it with a little oil garlic and chili flakes tonight, and I found that it really does taste like a cauliflower with a tightly wound broccoli texture...perfect for this tightly wound chick! Not only is this vegetable beautiful, it is pretty fun to eat as well!

Local Flavour: Newmarket Farmers Market

Last weekend I visited the Newmarket Farmers Market for the first time, and I loved it! I am pretty picky when it comes to Farmers Markets because the one I left behind in Fredericton NB is awesome. Newmarket did not disappoint. They have a great mix of farmers stands, food stands, crafts  and entertainment. The location is awesome, and although parking is slow going, there is tons of it around once you get to the lot! All in all I had a great morning at the market.

Harvest Share- 8 Weeks In

We're almost halfway through our Harvest Share program. I have been photographing my basket each week and posting on Instagram. My favourite part has definitely been experiencing new vegetables like kale, golden beets, heirloom carrots. I also really like having fresh produce at my fingertips; it reminds me of home. The downside is that even at the personal size, sometimes we can't eat everything. I've been freezing what I can, but sometimes we end up throwing things out. All in all, the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses, and it certainly makes for a fun photo project!

Easy Flowers

The morning of our housewarming, I decided I really want to put some fresh flowers in the bathrooms! I remembered my friend had noticed some wild flowers along the road to my house, and I set out on an adventure. I was able to pick a few daisy's and buttercups for the master bathrom and then a nice pink flower (clearly not an advanced gardener) for our guest bathroom. They were just the touch I was looking for!

My parents are here for the week, and I am looking forward to doing some projects around the house and celebrating the long weekend!

Harvest Share: Week One

I am so excited about participating in the harvest share program with Carron Farms this summer. I grew up with fresh vegetables from my mom and grammy's gardens, so I've spoiled my palate to expect new carrots and potatoes every summer. Carron Farms is really close to our house, and every Thursday night we head out to the farm to pick out our basket. I've decided that I am going to capture each week's basket on Instagram as a photo project!
